Finding Refuge
God Is Your Safe Place
Read
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way…”
Reflection
Everyone seeks refuge somewhere.
When life becomes overwhelming, we naturally run somewhere for comfort: distraction, achievement, control, relationships, entertainment, or simply trying harder. None of those things were designed to carry the weight of our souls.
God offers Himself.
Notice what Psalm 46 doesn’t promise. It doesn’t promise that the earth won’t shake. It assumes difficult seasons will come. Mountains may move. Waters may roar. Circumstances may feel unstable.
But the refuge isn’t the absence of storms.
The refuge is the presence of God.
He is “a very present help.” Not distant. Not distracted. Not waiting for you to get stronger before coming near.
You don’t have to pretend you’re okay. Refuge is only meaningful when we admit we need one.
One of the greatest gifts of the Christian life is that we don’t merely believe true things about God—we get to run to Him.
Today, simply let Him be your safe place.
Reflection Questions
- Where do I instinctively run when life feels difficult?
- What would it look like to intentionally run to God today instead?
- How does knowing God is “very present” change how I face this season?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for being my refuge. When life feels uncertain, remind me that You remain unshaken. Help me run toward You instead of toward fear or self-reliance. Teach me to rest in Your presence today.
Amen
